One-Year Preparatory Programme for Czech Secondary School
Do you want to study at a secondary school in the Czech Republic, but still need to improve your Czech? Join an intensive one-year course designed to prepare you for the entrance exams and help you succeed in your future studies.
The course is open to young people under 26 from outside the European Union who have completed nine years of compulsory education and plan to attend a Czech secondary school. It provides intensive support in Czech and mathematics, as well as guidance on the Czech education system.
What does the course offer?
- intensive Czech language classes five days a week,
- development of the Czech language skills needed for school, understanding the curriculum, and working with test instructions,
- preparation for Czech language entrance exams,
- four hours of mathematics per week, with a focus on the language of word problems,
- regular practice with entrance exam tests and test-taking strategies,
- help with choosing a secondary school and submitting applications,
- support with developing study habits, planning, and managing stress,
- individual consultations and tutoring based on your needs,
- textbooks and other study materials,
- ongoing support from experienced teachers, a methodology specialist, and the course coordinator.
If needed, you can also access career, social, legal, and basic counselling services provided by the Centre for Foreigners JMK, as well as sociocultural orientation courses and other services. You can also take part in activities organised by our Youth Club.
The course is about more than just preparing for exams. You will become part of a study group, meet new people, and receive support as you settle into studying and living in the Czech Republic. We will aim to adapt the programme as closely as possible to the participants’ needs.
Basic information
- Dates: September 2026 – June 2027 (The exact start date will be confirmed).
- Schedule: five days a week, six lessons per day, for a total of 30 lessons per week
- Location: Centre for Foreigners JMK, Kounicova 13, Brno Course fee: free of charge
- Refundable deposit: CZK 5,000 (The deposit will be refunded once the specified participation requirements have been met).
- Class fund contribution: CZK 1,000 per semester (The contribution will be used for group activities, trips, and other activities).
NOTICE: Places on the course are limited.
The course does not conclude with a language exam, and completing it does not lead to an official certificate confirming your language level. However, it will help you significantly improve your Czech and prepare for a certified language exam if you decide to take one.

Submitting the form does not guarantee a place on the course. Selected applicants will be invited to the next stage, which will include an initial assessment of their Czech and mathematics skills and their individual learning needs.
