Community Theatre with Yolda Collective (Workshop Series)
Community theatre with Yolda Collective brings a participatory workshop series exploring balance, support, and belonging through collaborative creation.
Open to all who are interested in theatre and movement, and especially welcoming to people navigating life in a new cultural environment.
What the workshops are about
Community theatre is a creative space where participants from diverse backgrounds can connect, exchange perspectives, and share their presence and stories. The artistic approach responds to the community’s needs and interests, and may incorporate additional mediums such as photography, puppetry, food-based activities, writing, sound recording, and video documentation.
The workshops aim to:
- build a cooperative, supportive, and safe environment where everyone can express themselves without pressure or judgment,
- spend meaningful time together and establish a sense of unity,
- emphasize dialogue, empathy, and mutual care within the group,
- shape how our community theatre grows together, creating a space that reflects the experiences, needs, and ideas of all participants.
The series is structured through diverse theatre tools (Theatre of the Oppressed, clowning, movement practices, storytelling, performance-making techniques) responsive to the participants’ experiences. All activities are designed to be accessible regardless of physical ability, developing an inclusive and accessible method and space.
